RANT-A-THON:
A fun fundraiser where folks can pay to say what they have to say.

SACRAMENTO - Have something you want to get off your chest? Saturday, April 2, is the date to do it. Straight Out Scribes will host the first ever Rant-a-thon, Read-a-thon, Speak-a-thon Radical, Revolutionary, Progressive - Speak Up, Speak Out, Poetry Reading & Art Exhibit, Saturday, April 2, 2005, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at KINKS International Holistic Beautification Center and Art Gallery, 629 15th Street (corner of 15th & G Streets) Sacramento.

According to Staajabu, one of the organizers, this will be a "fun raiser" and fundraiser where people will have a chance to say whatever they want as long they take into consideration the elders and children in the audience from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then from 2 to 6 p.m. participants will be able speak uncensored (adults only). The public is encouraged to come out and support their favorite ranter/poet/orator/vocalist/artist/musician/comedian or friend and cheer them on. There will also be refreshments, vendors, door prizes and lots of fun.

"V.S. Chochezi, co-producer says, "If you don’t want to step up to the platform folks are welcome to sponsor someone else. We welcome all poetry and performance pieces, as well as spontaneous or impromptu recitations."

The Art Exhibit will include art by political prisoners, poets (including art and photos by V.S. Chochezi and Staajabu), plus other local visual artists.

Admission is FREE to enjoy the event but speakers will be expected to pay to say what they want to say. The cost to rant, read, recite, sing, dance, talk, play, babble, whistle or hum is $1 a minute.

To sign up to rant: Call or email Staajabu (916-452-1290) staajabu@yahoo.com with the number of minutes you would like to rant, read, recite, sing, dance, play or speak. At $1 a minute, she will tell you what times are open and how much it will cost. You choose your minutes. She will write your name in those times. Then send a check or money order payable to Straight Out Scribes and mail to 2016 Meer Way, Sacramento, CA 95822 or make arrangements for payment at least 3 weeks prior to the event. People are encouraged to get sponsors. A sponsor is a person, company or organization that pays for your minutes. Sponsors names will be included on the program as supporters of Sacramento artists and the arts. Be sure to let us know the name of your sponsor. Then all you have to do is be there. Open times will be available to be sold on the spot.
