The 2010 Asante Festival
is Here!!
Get ready New Orleans! The
2010 Asante Festival is right around the corn er. It will be held
Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Audubon Zoo located at 6500 Magazine Street New
Orleans, LA. 70118. The festival will begin at 10:00 am and end at 6:00
pm. The Festival will showcase poets, musicians, artist, local pioneers.
Asante Awards
Festival is a celebration of the pinnacles of the African descendant’s
creativity. It was formed out of the desire to celebrate the
contributions that many (local-New Orleans) artists have made with little
to no recognition, by acknowledging, giving thanks (Asante) and
presenting them with awards. We proudly look upon those persons; groups
and organizations that made contribut ions that cultivate these art
forms. We also recognize the contributions that the African American
culture brings to the global community in many other academic
disciplines. Many people of the world dance to (New Orleans) music, feast
to our food, relish in our art and culture. The
Asante Awards and Festival seeks to place 'center stage' those who
make us smile when encircled with their works!
This event is designed to
showcase our cultural achievements, and honor our local folks who have a
lovefor Jazz, Art, Movies, Music, and Spoken word. New Orleans unique
neighborhoods echo relics and rhythms of those who lived and worked
there. In re-uniting as a city, it's vital to regenerate the souls of the
residences who embody the very culture of who we are as a city. Asante
Awards Festival is a family day. Neighboring artists paint their
inter-visions, while musician toot out lyrical phrases, the beat of the
drums sings it own messages or perhaps the fine art and sculptures
designs of an artisan display a symbol, and the melodic phrases of a
poetry tells a story. Whichever it may be, we have much to appreciate,
celebrate, what Asante Awards Festival is all about.
